The Queen of Spheres comes at the end, and there is a dragon that is her agent.
His world died but he's alive. Her world died yet she lives. They are crossing the Atlantic on the same boat—she a stowaway, he shoveling coal to pay passage. His name is Rowend, and it's been five years since he left his people on their doomsday. Her name is Casidra, and he convinces her not to sacrifice herself because he knows what her people have only just learned: the Queen comes, and she eats worlds.
Together they will hunt the dragon that serves her.
To unknown worlds they will chase it: lands of fire, lands of frost, cities at the end of their life, cities already dead…
He has his faith to guide him and the wisdom, and naivete, of a life spent in the temples. She has her strength, in her heart and her claws, and bitter memories of a life cut short. They'll come to love each other, if Rowend is strong enough to let them. And it's no longer just his hunt.
